DOBERMANN BREED COUNCIL

Chairman’s Annual Report 2008

The DBC held three meetings discussing and or acting upon the following:-

Breed Standard – Tail Section, Colour Restrictions, Health, Judges Applications,
Judges Breed Specific Tests & Web Site

Breed Standard – Tail Section

Further to the details given in my 2007 report regarding amendments to the tail section of the breed  standard the DBC discussed amendments submitted by the member clubs and decided upon the amendment to be submitted to the KC for their consideration. The KC approved our submission that resulted in the undocked section being change to, 111111111111111111 Undocked: Appears to be a continuation of the spine without material drop, kink or deformity. May be raised and carried freely when the dog is moving or standing.

Colour Restrictions

This subject was also addressed in my last report, the result of our proposal that was submitted to the KC Breed Standard and Stud Book Sub Committee was to disallow the registration of non standard colours, at the time of writing decision is not yet operating due to changes having to be made to each breeds registration details. My personal view is that the changes are taking far too long but then we all know what an old dinosaur the KC is when it comes to change!

Health

You will be aware of the KC announcements with regards to health tests, also all Breed Councils and or Breed Clubs had to supply the KC with details of any health issues which we duly complied with.

This also prompted Dog World to produce a Canine Health Supplement that was published in their issue of the 6th February 2009 that contained the details supplied by the DBC relating to the Dobermann that was also submitted to the KC.

Judges Applications

The DBC approved and invited 17 Judges who accepted their invitation, the breakdown being as follows:-

A3 List: - Breed Specialist 6.     Overseas Breed Specialist 2.    Non Breed Specialist 1.

B List: -   Breed Specialist 1.    Non Breed Specialist 2.

C List: - Breed Specialist 4.      Non Breed Specialist 1.

Full details of the DBC and KC requirements of those wishing to judge the breed can be viewed and downloaded on the DBC website

Judges Hands On and Critique Writing Assessment Test

The North of England Dobermann Club held the above tests on the 16th March 2008 with nine candidates being successful.

Once again I would thank NEDC Committee for their enthusiasm and hospitality in hosting this event.

 Web Site

Over the past year Jean Quigley has further developed the site making it more user friendly, she also produced a health page containing health results published in the KC Breed Record Supplements from the year 2000 which proving to be a useful reference for the breed especially with the importance that the KC are now placing on the health of dogs.
