The DBC held three meetings discussing and or acting upon the following:-
Margaret Woodward-Sheridan
You will be aware of Margaret’s passing, on behalf of the DBC I wish to acknowledge the work she did over the years for the Dobermann as a club Committee Member, Secretary, Chairman and fifteen years as the DBC Chairman. At our last meeting we acknowledged this by including Margaret on the DBC Roll of Honour.
Breed Standard – Tail Section
Over the past year it has been interesting to observe the Undocked Tail Sets and note that the amendment to the tail section covering undocked tails would appear to cover the majority of what we are currently seeing in the show ring.
Colour Restrictions
At long last the KC Registration Dept has updated their online registration facility with regards to none standard colour registrations unfortunately this does not fully meet with what had been indicated to the DBC by the KC. This matter will be addressed at our March 2010 meeting.
Health
At our June meeting Rebecca Barber Bsc Hons. was elected as DBC Health Coordinator.
A presentation was made to Carol Smith for all the time and effort made on behalf of the DBC whilst being the Health Coordinator.
At the March meeting I brought to the attention of the member clubs the subject of Hip Dysplasia and the view that Dobermanns do not have a problem with HD because we have a mean average score of 10? I advised the meeting that as of 2008 only 1161 Dobermanns had been scored this represents only 1.08% of Dobermanms registered. To the end of 2009 a further 70 have been scored this represents 4.38% of the registrations for 2009.
I feel sure you have to agree that health issues are dominating the dog scene and I would appeal to everyone to adopt the policy of having your breeding stock similar to those of the Accredited Breeders Scheme they are Hip Scoring & DNA test – vWD mandatory, Eye testing recommendation. I have heard it said by some breeders “that no one is going to tell me what to do” I have always felt it a wise move to be ahead of the game. Prospective puppy owners are becoming more aware of the KC/BVA schemes and are looking for stock that has been tested.
At our December Jo Dukes McEwan gave a presentation to member clubs representatives on the current position regarding DCM etc which was invaluable. The Health Coordinator is looking into organizing a Health Day using speakers who specialise in specific subjects, initial enquiries indicate that this may be in October/November 2010.
